Website design and development

A website earns its cost in one of two ways. It converts more of the traffic you are already paying for or it stops costing you staff time. Most of the sites we are asked to replace are failing at both.

We design and build websites for established UK businesses, usually where the current site has fallen behind what the business has become.

01: Suitability

Who this suits

  • Your site was built for a smaller or different version of your business.
  • It is slow or awkward on a phone or you have to ask someone else every time you want to change a price.
  • The enquiry form works but you have no idea where the enquiries came from.
  • You are about to spend money on advertising and you know the site will not hold up.
02: What we build

What we build

Structure built around how people actually buy

The path from arriving to enquiring or purchasing is the thing we design first. Everything else follows it.

Content you can edit

If updating a page requires a developer the site will go stale. We build so your team can change text, images, prices and offers without us.

Tracking built in from the start

Analytics, conversion events and consent handling set up as part of the build rather than bolted on afterwards. This is the single most common thing we find missing on a site somebody else built.

Speed and mobile

Most of your traffic is on a phone, often on a poor connection. The site is built and tested for that first.

Findable by search and by AI tools

Clean structure, real headings, proper metadata and content written to answer the questions buyers actually ask.

Accessibility

Sensible contrast, keyboard navigation, alt text and readable text sizes as standard.

03: Platforms

Platforms

WordPress

For content heavy sites, businesses that publish regularly and anything needing flexible page structures.

Shopify

For ecommerce, where the checkout, payments, inventory and app ecosystem do more for you than a custom build would.

Wix

Where the business needs to self manage everything with minimal technical support and the requirements are straightforward.

We will tell you if the platform you are on is fine and only the design needs work. Rebuilding a working site is an expensive way to change how it looks.

04: The project

How the project runs

01

Discovery

Answer a few short questions about your goals and website needs. We'll suggest the right next step, and you can book a conversation if you're ready.

02

Scope and proposal

A fixed scope with what is included and what is not, so there is no argument later.

03

Design

Key page designs first for approval, then the rest.

04

Build

On a staging site you can see. Staging is protected from search engines, which matters more than people think.

05

Content

We will tell you clearly which content you are providing and which we are writing, before the build starts.

06

Testing and launch

Cross device, forms tested end to end, tracking verified against real submissions, redirects mapped from every old URL.

07

Aftercare

Thirty days of fixes included. Ongoing maintenance available separately.

05: Requirements

What we need from you

  • A named person who can approve designs and content without a committee
  • Your brand assets, logos and any photography you own
  • Access to your current hosting, domain and analytics
  • Content you have agreed to provide, on the date you agreed to provide it
06: Timelines

Timelines

Type of buildTypical timeline
Straightforward brochure siteSix to eight weeks from approved design
Ecommerce and larger buildsTen to sixteen weeks

Those timelines assume content arrives when agreed.

07: Ownership

Who owns it

08: Questions

Common questions

It depends on scope and we will not pretend otherwise. What we will do is give you a fixed price against a defined scope before any work starts rather than an hourly rate that drifts.

Yes. Everything is built on staging. Your current site stays live until the new one is ready and the redirects are in place.

Any rebuild carries some risk. We reduce it by mapping every existing URL to its new equivalent, keeping page content and structure where it is already working and checking indexing after launch. We will tell you before launch which pages carry rankings worth protecting.

Often yes and it is frequently the better commercial decision. If your problem is conversion rather than the platform, look at conversion rate optimisation first.

Whichever of us is better placed, agreed in writing at the start. We write plenty of it. We cannot write the parts only you know.
